  1. I definitely can relate to these feelings plus i constsntly and secretly feel inadequate for different things especially for not having a good enough willpower to no eat that cake, pie or cookie.

  2. It’s the abstract, non-existent, conformist ideals that we are held up to and aim to resemble. How weird is it that everyone is held up and compared to something that doesn’t even exist. If we deviate from “our labels” that scares people but if we conform, that is even more frightening.

  3. This reminded me of the “good fatty” concept. Oddly enough it made me wonder if I’m not feeling guilty enough for doing some of these things. How twisted is that? The diet culture runs deep, even with active work of trying to undo it. The piece about healthcare resonated with me because I feel that is so shoved down our throats.

  4. How sad that we still feel so much guilt, and that it is still acceptable in our society to comment on overweight people, to laugh at them, or even to point. We need to move beyond that.

  5. Guilty is a poem that intrigues me. In it’s spare style it captures the emotions in which our personal body image is wrapped, capturing how we feel, what our perceptions are and facing the fears that body image can create in us. This poem gives me something to think about. I go back to ‘Guilty’ time and again. It always has something to tell me.
